Magic Money: Why wanting money is OK

Aug 23, 11 Magic Money: Why wanting money is OK

If you have ever been asked in a group setting what it is that you want more of, you probably felt pressured to reply by mentioning anything but money. But if you are like most people, you realize that in all honesty, you want money… And lots of it, preferably.

This desire probably makes you feel a bit shitty about yourself, because when we think of rich people, we think of Las Vegas, Hollywood or Wall Street New York… Bling bling, expensive jewellery and clothes. And while you want money, the bling bling is so far off your want list that it doesn’t seem to add up.

Money is the single most magical physical possession that any of us can have. What makes it magical is what you can do with it. You can turn money into almost anything, including non-physical things; health, knowledge, skill, solitude, independence, time… As well as physical things; houses, cars, clothing, horses, dogs, cats or even physical beauty. Not to mention what you can do for others if you have money, and know how to make more of it: Continual help for organizations like RSPCA, Red Cross or World Food Program – what kind of an enlightened person would turn away from the possibility to help those causes and others? It is entirely up to you what you turn your money into, and that is pure magic, and it’s entirely natural for anyone to want money.

Things that money cannot buy are limited. It’s mainly two things:  happiness and sense of security. A lot of people want money to achieve these two goals, but it just won’t work. No matter how much bling you have on you, if you’re not happy within yourself, money won’t make you happy. No matter how much money you have on your bank account and how many security guards and alarms it has bought you, if you are not feeling safe and secure now, money will only make you more insecure – Without money you had nothing to lose, now, not only do you have to keep yourself safe, you have to keep your money safe, too! Someone said that money multiplies everything. What ever you are now, having more money will make it bigger. If you have problems, money will make them bigger. If you are happy, money will make you happier. I fully believe that – which is to say I don’t have much money as we speak, but I have freed myself into wanting more of it, because I’ve personally finally taken the stigma out of money.

How many times have you turned away from something truly worth while because you couldn’t afford it? You didn’t take that class you wanted to take? Couldn’t donate as much to the disaster relief as you wanted to? Couldn’t go out with your friends as the thing they wanted to do required a bit more money than you had? And now that Internet is making friends across borders – how cool would it be to be able to visit friends in other countries because you could afford to? See? It’s okay. It’s not superficial, quite the opposite: It is be superficial to think money is all about vanity or superficiality.
